English is Fun: “Objurgate”

I learned a new word while reading Les Miserables last night. The word is “objurgate,” and it means to scold or rebuke.

I don’t know that I really have to say all that much about this. It’s obviously a phenomenal word, and I hope I am granted frequent opportunities to include it in my vocabulary. Perhaps I will invoke it during one of my verbose remonstrations of a sports team that is disappointing me.

Yay words! English is fun.

  1. I love that about English. You can never run out of both astoundingly useful and completely useless words to learn!

Also, how do you like the, original, book version of Les Miserables? I know its a great musical, movie, and radio drama, but I've never read the novel myself.

  2. I'll do a full Les Miserables review post in the next little while. I'm nearly finished it–about 150 pages to go. Should be done in a week or less.

Six-word review: "May top my Best Fifty list."
