In Style

With a new job comes a new wardrobe:

I have become a being composed almost entirely of Style.

After my orientation today, Larissa took me shopping at Moore's, and we fleshed out my selection of business-casual (and semi-formal) clothing to something that should keep me dressed for quite a while.

I'm not a shopper, not by any means, but this was actually kind of fun, mostly because I didn't have to try anything on except the shoes. Plus I like thinking of myself as a classy gentleman, and wearing ties certainly helps with that.

  1. Pretty good choices. I’m not huge on the shoes, but they’ll probably do just fine.

    • The shoes were a secondary consideration, to be honest. Probably wouldn’t have bought them if they weren’t on clearance for $50 off. I already had a pair of light brown shoes, but some black ones are good for when I’m wearing black pants.

Also, they’re super comfortable. So ++ there.

  2. Well done on the selection. Not that I am a style expert but black pants and brown shoes don’t work unless it is quite a contrast so good call on having the black shoes. Also, kudos on not selecting all striped ties as it is considered a rookie mistake. And because I have no idea about your tie-tying abilities, a forewarning is in order. Whatever you do, do not let anyone, and I mean ANYONE, convince you that it is kosher to tie your ties once and leave them tied and hanging. It is the cardinal sin of men’s accessories (except for matching your belt and shoe colour).

    • I had a helpful salesman and a wife there picking ties for me, with minimal input from myself, so I feel fairly safe there. :)

As for tie-tying, I definitely wouldn’t leave them tied and hanging, if for no other reason than that it feels like cheating, and I don’t need to cheat! I tied my tie quite well on the first attempt last time, so I feel ready for anything!

P.S. You mean the cardinal sin re: colour-matching is to NOT match your belt and shoes, right? Because the belt I bought is reversible, for the reason that I have the two different shoe colours… They aren’t identical shades or anything, but I figured I was supposed to make the belt black for my black shoes and brown for my tan shoes… Am I misunderstanding this whole thing?

  3. Nice job Larissa! The tie colours are so versatile- you could swap them with any of those shirts. Reversible belt is so smart!

  4. This selection will have you nailing that classy thing. You will be a semi formal/formal force to be reckoned with ^_^
