Do you prefer to hold books in your hands and see them on your shelf, rather than reading them off a screen? I know I do!

Now’s your chance to do exactly that with my newest print offering, DISCOVERY. This is the first quarterly Year of Stories print collection. It contains 13 stories and is about 200 pages long. Here’s the blurb from the Store page:

The first three months of Tim Sevenhuysen’s Year of Stories project are packed with real human characters making their way through fantastic challenges and strange worlds. From outer space to the high seas, from the far reaches of the future to an ancient kingdom torn by war, your journey will carry you to places of wonder and terror, hope and heartache, victory and defeat.

DISCOVERY contains 13 short stories, notably including Diana and the AnimalA Kingdom of WhiteDarla, Dragon Hunter, and Unsettled, as released on TimSevenhuysen.com between January and March 2012.

You can preorder your very own copy of DISCOVERY right now for $11.99. The proof is in the mail on its way to me right now, and I hope to officially release the book and start shipping people’s orders by mid-March.

If you’ve been looking for a good way to contribute to the Grocery Fund, maybe this is the right option for you!

If you live in Victoria (or will be in Victoria at some point) and would prefer not to pay shipping, send me an email and let me know you’d like a copy, and we can work out arrangements for how to get the book in your hands. (That goes for friends and family, too!)

The number of preorders I get will affect how many I have printed in the first run, so please place your order sooner rather than later and help me save on the shipping. Thanks!

Flare Fiction: Volume 2

It’s here! My latest chapbook, Flare Fiction: Volume 2, is now available in the Store, for whatever price you wish to pay.

Here’s a little bit of information about the collection:

These stories are experiments, in a lot of ways. Can Imaginary Enemy get you to care about the plight of an imaginative young boy in less than a page and a half? Can A Brain Well-Watered encapsulate the creative process in only 315 words, and inspire you to go searching after your own fresh inspiration? Can A Long Story make you laugh the first time you read it, and sigh with pity the second? These are the kinds of challenges I set for myself as an author. You, as readers, are my audience, my targets, my judges, and often my inspirations.

As with my previous chapbooks, you can set your own price by adjusting the “quantity” of dollars and cents while you’re ordering.

Flare Fiction 2 is also available to grab from Amazon for 99¢.

If you read and enjoy the collection, please head over to Amazon and leave a review! Reviews really help other people find my work, so your thoughts and comments are very much appreciated.

February Year of Stories Collection Now Available

I’m a little bit late in getting this out there, but you can now get your hands on the full February collection of the Year of Stories for just $2.99, which is 25% cheaper than buying each story individually, plus you get to read them all sooner!

The four February stories are as follows:

Darla, Dragon Hunter
My “friends” think I’m a paralegal. I amuse myself sometimes by wondering what they would say if they found out that a couple of times a month I exchange my pantsuit for camo gear and a high-tech sniper rifle and hunt dragons. They’d probably think I was joking. Fine by me.

Escape Velocity
I thought stasis would be like sleeping. I thought I’d simply close my eyes on Earth and when I opened them I’d be a hundred light-years away, with no memory of the intervening time or the immense distance I had travelled. I thought stasis would be an escape, but I’ve spent the absent infinity of our voyage through space exploring the inside of my own head, reliving every one of those moments, those days, those joys, those sorrows.

Captain Blackbird and the Mutineers
It’s a beautiful day to be a pirate, as far as Captain Blackbird is concerned, but it seems his crew feels differently. They’re sick of getting scurvy and going weeks without finding any treasure! When they take a stand and threaten mutiny, Captain Blackbird knows there’s only one solution: it’s time to go hunting for treasure in the treacherous caves of Gorgon Isle!

Jary’s Got a Gun
On the morning Jary Tomlin finds the world’s last remaining gun, he and his wife are having an argument in the kitchen. They’re being evicted, and Jary can’t imagine how life could possibly get much worse. Then he accidentally knocks a hole in the wall of the garage, and “worse” is exactly what he finds hidden inside.

Galloway’s Hunt

Today I’m releasing a new book called Galloway’s Hunt, available now in my Store and on Amazon for $0.99. Plus, read below for some exciting special offers related to the novel I’m working on based on the same title character!

Galloway’s Hunt is a novelette set in the world of Galloway’s Voyage, my work-in-progress novel.

At approximately 9,100 words, or 35 pages, Galloway’s Hunt will take the average reader 30 minutes to complete.

The Yuskian spring bison hunt is a generations-old rite of passage for the people of that country, and big game has always held a certain allure for Lucas Galloway. In the spring of 9970 he sets out to take part in the bison hunt with his good friend Jeremy Prinks, but he soon finds himself swept away on an adventure of literally gigantic proportions.

Purchase Options
You can buy the ebook of Galloway’s Hunt for only $0.99, but you also have the option to pay more and receive special bonuses. (Use the dropdown menu at the bottom of this page to select bonuses.)

  • For $1.99, I will email you and ask you to provide me with a title that I will use as inspiration for a 50-word story.
  • For $4.99, three buyers will be able to name minor characters in the Galloway’s Voyage novel.
  • The first person who pays $19.99 will be able to provide the name for one of the major characters in the Galloway’s Voyage novel.

Head over to the Store to take advantage of these special offers before all the naming rights get snapped up!

Profits from the sale of Galloway’s Hunt go towards meeting my Grocery Fund goals.

Year Of Stories Week 3

Welcome to week 3 of the Year of Stories!

This week’s free release is Burns Mars the Sun-Grasper’s Hands. This 1,700-word slipstream story is now available to read for free or to buy in the Store. Here’s the synopsis:

The gym where Mia works has plenty of regulars, but none as intriguing as “Louisa,” a mysterious elderly Cajun woman with physical strength that belies her age and appearance. When Louisa rushes out of the gym one day, accidentally leaving a leather glove behind, Mia is presented with an opportunity to delve into Louisa’s secrets.

The highlighted Store release for this week is A Kingdom of White, a 4,900-word epic fantasy short story. Read it now for only $0.99! Here’s a teaser:

Filip has always worn the purple gem set between his eyes with pride: it marks him as royalty, next in line to the throne. But when the brutish Carrow, whose face shimmers with the gems that symbolize every man he has killed, executes Filip’s father right in front of him, Filip is forced to decide what he values more: his royal birthright, or his life.

YoS January Collection and Single Stories in the Kindle Store

I’ve been writing like a madman over the past several weeks, and really stocking up the backlogs on my various projects, including the Year of Stories. So I figured, if I have the stories ready this far in advance, why not make them available for purchase this much sooner, too?

To that end, I’ve assembled the first Year of Stories monthly collection and posted it to the Kindle Store and the TScom Store for only $2.99. Buying all of the five stories separately, you’d pay almost $5, so with this collection you’re basically getting 40% off!

The month of January contains five Mondays, so the January collection has five stories. They are Discovery TwoDiana and the Animal, Burns Mar the Sun-Grasper’s Hands, A Kingdom of White, and Memoirs of the Model Agent: How I Rescued Mr. Dimbles. Click through to the product pages to read synopses and get more information about each one.

A lot of people like to buy their ebooks from Amazon, through the Kindle Store. It’s a great platform: you have all the convenience of buying through Amazon, and you can read on your Kindle or on any smartphone, tablet, or even computer, through their free apps. Plus they store everything in the Cloud. The future is pretty neat.

I want my stories to be as conveniently available to those people as possible, so from now on I’m going to be releasing my stories for Kindle at the same time that I put them in my own Store. I’m playing catch-up right now, for the individual stories: here are Discovery Two, Diana and the Animal, and Burns Mar the Sun-Grasper’s Hands.

Diaper Fund Update

Last week I set up the Diaper Fund as a way to track my progress towards buying a set of cloth diapers by April, through selling my writing.

Within two days of launching the Diaper Fund, you generous people brought me to within 5% of my goal. So far I have $288 of my $300 target.

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed. There’s still a little ways to go, and once I pass the diaper threshold I can start putting money towards a car seat or a change table, too, so I’m still going to be coming out with new products after Flare Fiction 1 is released.

Plus, in case you haven’t heard yet, everything in the FiftyWordStories.com Store is 25% off for the month of December.

Again, thank you, and Merry Christmas!
