The Baby Fund

The goal of the Baby Fund (formerly known as the Diaper Fund) was to raise money by selling my writing and gathering donations to help prepare for the arrival of our baby in April 2012.

Goals: Cloth Diapers - $300, Baby Monitor $60
Raised: $366.50

As of January 2012, I'm declaring the Baby Fund fully funded! Thank you so, so much to everyone who contributed.

About the Baby Fund

Larissa is currently pregnant with our first child. The baby is due in the first week of April 2012. We're so excited!

While Larissa works at a local hotel, I am currently job hunting, having just completed my Master of Arts in Sociology at the University of Victoria. In between searching through job postings and sending out resumes, I try to contribute by writing fiction in various forms and posting it online. I decided that the Baby Fund might be a fun and creative way to use my writing to help prepare for the arrival of our baby.

The Wish List

bumGenius DiapersCloth Diapers - $300

Larissa has decided that she wants to go with cloth diapers for our kids, and that represents a bit of an investment up front. The diapers she has her eye on from bumGenius cost about $300 for a complete set.

Car Seat - $150 (given to us by family)

To get Baby home from the hospital, we're going to need a nice, safe car seat! The Safety 1st stroller that was given to us can be matched to a car seat that fits inside it. Safety 1st car seats cost between $130 and $190, but we don't need anything too fancy.

Baby Monitor - $60

A good baby monitor will help us sleep peacefully at night, knowing that if (or should I say "when") Baby wakes up, we'll be able to hear it and go take care of Baby's needs right away. A good set of these will hopefully last a long time, so we can continue to use them when we outgrow apartment living and have more kids spread out around the house.

Overflow

Any money raised beyond the above amounts will go towards clothes, toys, and other baby supplies.

My Writing

Please browse through the books, stories, and collections I have available in my stores. I hope something catches your eye! A couple of available products are

  • Flare Fiction 1. Ten flash fiction stories about unusual domestic situations to being extorted by gangs of children to death and what comes after.
  • Feel-Good. A collection of short stories, flash fiction, and poetry.
  • Fifty-Word Stories: Volume 2. A hundred and thirty unique stories and poems, each exactly 50 words long, with a bonus essay on where to find inspiration for your writing.

I'll be making more stories and products available over the coming months, as well, so if you've already read everything (thank you!) or can't find something you like, check back later.

  1. Hi! Congrats on your baby and reaching your fundraising goals! I just wanted to say that choosing to use cloth diapers is an EXCELLENT idea. We did that as well with our daughter, who was born November 2011. I would recommend checking out lower-cost diapers rather than sticking with only BumGenius. I was going to do that as well, then I discovered Sun Baby diapers are JUST as good and way cheaper (and cuter). There are lots of Facebook groups for cloth diapering, and the main site is: http://www.sunbabydiapers.com/. I know I’m a complete stranger, but there’s a lot to learn about cloth diapering in the beginning so if you two have any questions feel free to email. It’s really easy once you get into it, and can be fun too. :)
